All building has been suspended while waiting for weather and help installing the skylights, as well as resting my back after multiple treatments to help with the nerve pain in my leg. (what looks like windows in my previous photos are just semitransparent roof plates)
Roof plates have to be removed and cut, so it didn’t make sense to put up insulation, and I was beginning to worry we’d have to postpone until spring while I was trapped in the kitchen going bonkers. 😉 (perfect time to get those novels off my chest some would say, but it’s been more than 30 years since I thought I had any in me, so that’s hardly an option although it would have been fun!)

Going to have to think of a nifty solution to water; I probably won’t be able to dye up there, but I’ll need smaller amounts for brush cleaning and tea for instance. And since it’s really just a “storage loft”, not part of the living quarters, I can’t make any fixed installations of the kind. I have a crazy, cheeky solution in mind, but we’ll see.
Friday afternoon our friendly neighbour came home from work early especially for me since the weekend forecast was rain and wind again, and we hoped to get the second window in just before dark. But no suck luck, it started pouring. Same thing Saturday morning. But look now! I’m alternately crossing fingers and biting my nails at the time of posting, as water inside the room will destroy all of my plaster boards for the walls, and it’s quite windy today as well.
It means it’s up to me to actually finish 3 of the walls completely, so there’s plenty to be done while we wait for the next dry spell and more windows on the other side. I could tell as I was picking aronia today that my back needs a slow start and more treatments, so I’ve been to the library instead. And I’ve decided to tidy the house once and for all and give up working on big stuff in the living room. I can’t deal with the constant clutter anymore, but getting it done is a drag, you know? 😉 So nice with a bit of procrastination. And a nap or three. No knitting happening whatsoever!
Not getting a lot of weaving done either, last week I put on a rug warp just to test the concept, ended up with leftover length and decided to try with some plant dyed cotton that I’ve hated so much I’ve been stalling for 2 years telling you how it went. Turned out it didn’t look half bad with the black, so at least now I know how to get rid of it. Think I’ll make a narrow runner/coaster for the garden table at some point. Or cat beds.
And found another reason why I need a bigger loom room: I can’t weave full width, my shuttle hits the wall already at 60%. Not sure I can reach full width without disabling myself again, but I’d like to have the option.

Cool project. Are your stairs a ladder? Does it go straight up or at an angle? Just wondering as we have a project in mind that would need something similar.

It’s the old ladder to the hay loft. It’s slightly angled, but close to vertical. At some point we may enlarge the hole and try to put in real stairs, but probably not something very safe or elaborate. By the time I can’t get up there anymore we should find another house….

I used to have a shorter one, more rickety, this one extends quite a bit above the hole as well as being more sturdy. The length especially is great, you can stand beside it on the top floor, grab the top of the ladder and just step onto it. Before I had to crouch down, hold onto a rope for safety and sort of crawl onto the first rung, hoping the feet wouldn’t slide on the floor below. Now I feel very secure, just as if it was a steep staircase.

Love that view, Pia. Such an exciting and great project, and having that designated space to work and retreat to……divine! You may just tuck into that studio of yours and write a novel while you’re at it. Water a must…in my off the grid studio as well…yes, to clean things, but as you mentioned ( more importantly) for the tea kettle!

Well, my mum gave me her comfy chair to cuddle up in so who knows what will happen up there, I may never come back down… Four hours for the second window today, need to get some extra roof plates before we tackle the rest. Ideally the entire roof could have been changed on all buildings, but that requires me being able to go back to work for a substantial amount of time to pay for it.

Quite a project, but certainly worth every bit of time and energy….keep that comfy chair handy, you’ll be sitting in your precious space , cup of tea and knitting at hand soon enough.Love the updates!

Herlig udsigt, og godt, du fik noget bedre stigeværk. Det er altid rart at høre at det går fremad – langsomt men sikkert – med byggeriet. Vi krydser fingre for masser af tørvejr og lyse aftner i den kommende tid.

Tak for krydsede fingre! Selvom der er en hel masse som kan gøres nu, adskillige ugers arbejde når det ikke længere er ferie, så ville det da være en lettelse at få de to sidste vinduer i så jeg VED det er gjort inden vinter. Storm og regn hindrer jo ikke det indvendige arbejde på samme måde. Men allerede nu er lysindfaldet deroppe SÅ meget bedre, det skal nok blive godt når der kommer hvid beklædning på i stedet for undersiden af eternitpladerne.
Der er et gammelt vindue i gavlen som jeg beholder, det kan nemlig pilles ud og bruges som flugtvej i tilfælde af brand, og så laver jeg et forsatsvindue istedet. Så det vil jeg pille ud denne uge og rense for rust, snavs og gammel maling og give det noget nyt, evt. finde et stykke glas hvor det ene lag er gået.
Eneste minus er, at jeg kommer til at savne brændeovnen i stuen. Jeg har for vane at lige lege grillkylling hver gang jeg går forbi.

Absolutely! I’ve been reading this kind of books most of my life, it’s quite amazing that I haven’t come across them before. So rich in words (not just the numbers of) I find I can’t read it as fast as I normally do, have to slow down my attention which is good practice for me who is always thinking ahead of everybody and everything.
