For a while my blog brain has been really, really silent, so I’m going to treat you to collections of Instagram posts for those of you who don’t use that platform. Who knows, maybe my words will be jumpstarted along the way.

Today, spring flowers! It’s pretty cold out still, and I don’t think my vine and hydrangea can get out of winter storage until next month. But it looks pretty and full of hope.

Despite cold winds and rain, nature persists in getting on with spring. Last weekend was fabulous which also meant catching up on some outdoors jobs before the next storm, but I managed an ultra short “blind” photo session (as in “I can’t see a bloody thing on the display in this light”) to remind me that sweater and woodstove days will eventually be over.

Today I noticed the rape seed fields are blooming, which means I’ll be scanning the skyline soon for a very longterm project that I’ve pondered for a while but finally begun to organize at least. Too windy and chilly today however and not enough sun. Hopefully it’s still happening when my back has recovered from last weekend!

How is spring coming along in your part of the world? (or autumn, if that’s the case)

dye storage, flowers, natural dyeing, seasons, wool, yarn

september16h Last year weeds happened to my orange cosmos (it always starts growing very late for some reason – then blooms into October where it’s too wet to collect seeds properly), this year slugs have overrun our entire property, so I had one plant. For that reason I had a handful of flowers in the freezer from last year and collected all summer from my one little very brave specimen to get enough for a reasonable amount of wool. Aaaand once more the garden is waking up, bit by bit. Another step up in temperature and I think it’s ok for my one forced rhubarb to come out of hiding.

I hope there’s going to be a very special photo project for me the next few months, but more about that later.

..in the new loom, the reign of cold and dark, possibly my back!

This is what my fix for not having a second warp beam looks like (the clamps are temporary – I broke the cordless drill. They’re all my personal clamps btw, the big iron ones I inherited from my grandad).

I’m not in a good place at the moment and have nothing much to say. I quit Facebook and my brief intermezzo with Twitter, I’m unsubbing various newsletters as they appear in my mailbox. Reducing the noise. Focus on the work. Whatever that is.

Perhaps I’ll post the occasional project photo, probably can’t resist. In any case I’ll leave it all up since I have quite a few people looking at the plant dye articles. Funny how they turned out to be the most popular ones! There will be likes on your blogs, I’m not going away, I just may not have anything interesting to contribute.

In fact, becoming wordless could prove an interesting exercise overall.
